Mast Cell Disorders

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is a chronic immunological condition where mast cells inappropriately release excessive chemical mediators (like histamine), causing recurrent, systemic allergy-like symptoms. It often causes skin rashes, hives, gastrointestinal distress (diarrhea, pain), cardiovascular issues (dizziness, tachycardia), and potential anaphylaxis. Diagnosis requires a triad of symptoms across multiple systems, positive response to medication, and elevated lab markers. Management focuses on avoiding triggers and using medications like antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers.
